What is Red Clover?
Red clover, a member of the bean family, has a long and storied history as medicine and food for livestock. During Pagan times, it was believed to have magical powers that would protect against evil spirits. Although native to Europe, Central Asia and North Africa, red clover was naturalized in North America and Australia many centuries ago.
Benefits of Red Clover
Red clover is rich in calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, vitamin C and other important nutrients and minerals. It is also unusually high in isoflavones (water-soluble chemicals that act like estrogens), which give it several unique benefits, particularly for women’s health:
- Helps reduce the discomfort of hot flashes and premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
- Increase breast health
- Improves blood circulation, bone strength and lower cholesterol
