Sprouts are one of the worlds most powerful and nutritious foods that nature has ever created. In simple terms, sprouts are literally just iddy biddy 'baby' plants. Some sprouts are only 2-3 days old before they are gently picked! Just like the innocence and purity of real babies, these sprouts are full of energy, purity, and life (without the crying). It is now, just after harvesting, that they are bursting with an abundant amount of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, proteins, fats, phytochemicals, enzymes, water and chlorophyll.
Why all these nutrients at such an early age? Well, it makes sense really - these nutrients are all the growth factors the plant will need to thrive and grow into a beautiful, mature vegetable, bean, or whatever else is on the menu. Sprouts are ALIVE and actually continue to grow for a period of time after they are harvested.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the fruits and vegetables found in your local supermarkets. The nutritional benefits gained from eating fruits and vegetables decreases quite quickly. To makes matters worse, this produce just sits on store shelves for days, maybe even longer, and thats already after days of cruising across the country. We are not advocating the avoidance of these fruits and vegetables. If anything, you will be prompted to eat more to make up for time-lost nutrients. Also, it should emphasize the importance of eating fresh and local.
Anyway, so what happens when you don't have the convenience of growing your own sprouts; or just can't eat them quickly enough before they go bad? Obviously, not eating these incredibly nutrient dense sprouts is not an option and we at Sprout Living understand that. We wanted, no we needed a way to share these sprouts with everyone who may not have easy access to fresh and vibrant sprouts. After our intensive think tank and pounds of freshly consumed sprouts later, we are proud to introduce (drum roll)...

What is this FD process anyway? We begin like any sprouting begins, but probably on a much larger scale.
- We fill beds worth of carefully selected certified organic, non-GMO seeds.
- Submerge them in pure, mineral-rich water.
- Give them more attention than they probably care for (we're protective)
- Allow adequate sprouting time for each individual sprout before harvesting.
Immediately upon harvesting, the sprouts are taken into the freeze dryer. Its a big, scary, and chilly place for most but not our fearless sprouts, in fact, they can't wait, because its after this that they will be preserved for 2 years.
A few geeky, scientific things happen - but most importantly the water is evaporated out, leaving around 1% water content! Once they are properly freeze dried (FD), we mill them into a powder. Never once exceeding temperatures even close to 118°, our FD sprouts remain in their raw state. In this new powdered state, they are virtually 100% shelf stable and are just waiting to be eaten.
